Our History

Background and Governance

The Manchester Development Corporation (MDC), a 501(C)(4) entity, has a history that dates back to the 1960s. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors comprising ten business leaders with varying expertise, all of whom are either residents or conduct business within the city limits.

City Representation and Advisory Support

The City maintains representation on the Board with two Aldermanic seats, whose terms coincide with the elected terms. Additionally, the Board is advised by the Manchester Economic Development Office (MEDO), which was formed in 1994 at the recommendation of MDC, enhancing the corporation's strategic decision-making.

Advocacy & Developments

These projects include feasibility studies and land purchases that have become key tourist and business attractions, showcasing MDC's commitment to the city's development.

Major Developments and Investments

MDC's investments have led to the construction of significant structures such as the Civic Center (SNHU Arena), the Rex Theatre, and The Residences at Manchester Place. Additionally, landmark historic downtown properties like the McQuade’s Building (844 – 860 Elm) and the Chase Block (1037-1045 Elm) have been redeveloped, contributing to the city's infrastructure and appeal.
